Peyton Hobson | BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU INSTRUCTOR
One of the main BJJ instructors and role models at Urbana Academy has been Peyton Hobson. He has been a true example and source of inspiration for young students at our gym. Peyton has been admired and respected for his human qualities, achievements, and the positive influence on others.
Peyton's BJJ classes play a crucial role in shaping the attitudes and behaviors of our students at Urban Academy. He is a true example of what can be achieved through hard work, determination, and a commitment to values, which makes him one of the best BJJ instructors in Maryland.
Since 2016, Peyton’s journey in Jiu Jitsu has been absolutely transformative, leading to significant weight loss and a more active lifestyle. He has enjoyed competing in both the local and IBJJF tournaments and appreciates the comradery found at Urbana Academy. In April of 2017, Peyton was awarded his Blue Belt. Peyton also further expanded his training to include Judo, Muay Thai, and Krav Maga as a compliment to his Jiu Jitsu training. In September 2020, Peyton was awarded his Purple Belt.
HOW PH motivates students in Gracie Jiu Jitsu
Peyton Hobson affirms that motivating people to practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) can be achieved through various approaches:
Set Clear Goals
We encourage our students to define what their goals are in BJJ, whether it's mastering a particular technique, earning a higher belt rank, or participating in competitions. "Goals provide motivation and a sense of purpose," he says.
Foster a Supportive Community
Our academy emphasizes the camaraderie and support all of us can receive from training partners.
Show Progress
We help students recognize and celebrate their progress, no matter how small. Improvement is a powerful motivator. We keep track of everyone's achievements and milestones.
Positive Reinforcement
We always offer constructive feedback and praise when students perform well. Positive reinforcement can boost confidence and motivation.
Competition
We encourage our students to participate in local BJJ tournaments. Competition can be a strong motivator to refine skills and test ourselves.
Incentives
Our incentives such as stripes on belts, certificates, and other rewards are essential for meeting specific goals.
Regular Challenges
In our sparring sessions, our students compete in a friendly environment and experience the thrill of competition without the pressure of a formal tournament.
Inspirational Stories
All of us share success stories of fellow students and instructors who have achieved their goals through dedication and hard work. These stories inspire others to make one step at the time.
Keep It Fun
We ensure that training sessions are enjoyable and not overly serious. A fun and relaxed environment can be a significant motivator.
Feedback Loop
We create an open feedback system for students to express their concerns or suggestions. This helps in tailoring the training experience to everyone's needs.
At Urbana Academy, we understand that every motivation varies from person to person. Thus, it's essential to understand our students' individual motivations and cater the needs to keep everyone engaged in the BJJ practice and passion.
